AK-47. Easy to clean durable and wont jam in sand or dirt incase you fall down. Ak-47 is also very sturdy incase you need to use it to hit a zombie. M1 Grands aqlso have similar traits to this. That would also be a good pick.

You could stick with the classic shotgun. It may not have all those /\ good qualities, but it makes a nice splatter that is hard to resist.

Personally, I would (and I will when I save up the money) go with a .357 magnum revolver and .357 magnum pump (or lever) action carbine. Same ammunition for both, plus they can also chamber .38 special rounds. Both calibers are extremely common so you'll likely be able to scavenge some when you get low. No magazines to worry about and both weapons are extremely reliable and easy to use & maintain.

shotguns are big with big ammo. Its range isnt very long either if you have any previous back ground in using firearms. The .357 magnum would also be good. It has a pretty accurate long range also. Not as accurate a long range as a rifle though. If you buy a gun stock up on ammo because you most likely wont find any zday. maybe off dead bodies but you run the risk of desease. If I was to have a .357 it would be a glock. magazines hold alot more ammo and its easier to put a new clip in rather than shoot 6 times and having to hurry up and put 6 more rounds in the revolver.

Glock makes a pistol in .357 SIG not in .357 Magnum. The .357 SIG is a relatively new round (developed in 1994) and there is not a lot of real life ballistic data on it. Also, It is not interchangeable with .357 Magnum or .38 Special. Because it is a new type of ammo, it is more expensive and less available. There's a crapload of .357 Magnum and .38 Special rounds stored up around the US. Plus, there are lots of people with reloading equipment/supplies for those calibers.

The reason I opt for something without magazines is that I would rather not have to worry about retrieving magazines from a battle site. Sure, you could pocket the spent mags but realistically, in a battle situation, you're likely just gonna let them hit the ground. Plus, if you know that reloading is slower, you're going to tend to conserve ammo and make your shots count. When ammo will no longer be mass produced, conservation will vital to survival.

m14, ak47 or mini14. those are good an not to bad the m14 is about 2000 USD though. in my opinion a B.A.R. or browning automatic rifle shoots a 30-06 and is accrate but i havent seen one functionl in years

automatic rifles arnt good for headshots and are a waste of ammo

killer13 you have some real good ideas. I would say a .357 magnum as the best side arm. But I would still want to have an ak-47 as my main gun and a machette as my bladed weapon.

Heres my idea, an M1 carbine or grand will get the job done. There accurate and if worse comes to worse there tough enough to use a club. If it can survive WWII then it can survive a bunch of zombies.

There cost range is from 800 - 1200 dollars. Thats why I recomended an Ak-47 300-400. The AK also is very durable and easy to clean wont jam in dirt or sand incase you stumble or lay low.

That only happens if you buy a rare, or collectors grade gun. My M1 carbine is a service grade, i got it for 400 dollars, and it came with everything you need. As for the grand there is a trick. Buy from some old widow in Florida, or from one of the massive midwest buy in bulk dealers, they will sell them for 350 to 450. As for the dirt factor it goes the same. When invading islands, marines found that they are both solid guns like the AK, wont jam, and will fire with extreme amounts of muck and crap in them. But I can see your point, the Ak is the most popular rifle in the world because of that fact. I think the number is 100,000,000 and counting.
