Slowing down the Living Dead
I was thinking the other day when I saw a very old lady walking around the store. If she became a zombie wouldn't the zombie be stuck moving at the exact same pace as her making her a smaller threat then the other zombies? And sick and overweight people they wouldn't be able to move very well. Alot of people are always just shoot them in the head every thing else is worthless but if you wound them that is slowing them down and I know you always go for the kill but that isn't always the easy shot. I am just wondering what everyone thinks about these topics.

I can hit a small kids wheel-barrel from a football feild away 5 out of 6 shots, with a .357 magnum. I missed the 1st shot because it was the 1st time I shot that gun, it was my girlfriends grandpas. The rest of the shots hit the little wheel-barrel dead on. If you cant get a headshot when I can from a football feild away with a pistol than you should just save the z trouble and turn your firearm on yourself. Not trying to bash you, just go to your range and practice on some empty tide bottles (there about as big as a head), until you know your gun better.

a word of advice little old ladies move slow cause it hurts to move fast so when they cant feel pain it wont matter

Alot of things slowing fatties and the elderly down wont matter if they're undead. Pain, cardiovascular weakness, mental weakness the fact that the brain only engages 1/3 your muscles at a time to do anything. they wont move as fast as a sprinter who turns into a zombie but theyll likely move faster than you would think possible. likely faster than you if they aren't "shambler" type zombies proposed by max brooks; if they are no biggy a brisk walk will get you away. I also think a wounding shot is a waisted shot ammo will be finite become an excelent shot hope you can do it understress, 80% of shots at under 15 feet miss in a life threatening situation.

If you need to slow one down just shoot it in the nee and then go for the head.

knee's an even smaller target than a head, i suppose the leg is sort of a larger target, but if you dont hit the knee will a thighshot even one that breaks the femer slow them down much? i suppose if you've got a bat a knee blow might make taking out the head easier

If it does hit the thigh it will slow it down, the force from the impact should at least stumble it if not completely nock it down. Its kind of like running and hitting something, it makes you stumble if not nock you down, all because of the opposite force applied to your leg. So if you shoot it in the thigh or the hip it should make it stumble enough time to put a lethal hit on it.

i dunno i suppose i could see that being usfull in certain situations, but an individual thigh isnt *that* much larger than the head expecialy in width, so i'm not seeing that as being a great endall tactic... though maybe 00 buck three inch magnums might work tremendously well for that at short range, but it still brings me back to why not just shoot at the reasonably simalar sized melon on top to finish it

Like you said, it all depends on the situation, the last thing i meant for it was to be and end all. Thats the last thing I would do. But if the situation presents its self then i would hit it in the leg.

the only way a thigh hit would make it stumble is if its a high cal. there going to be coming at you so thats momentum and the applied for is to a small region.

just guessing but i dont think that zombies are going to have the same sense of balance that we have. anything that hits hard enough to jolt them should knock them over. and depending on their anatomy would depend on how quickly they get back up.
if you take out a leg, you may slow them down. but when they start crawling, thats just going to make them quieter and a lower profile, so they are in turn deadlier.

that is impressive, but when being swarmed by zombies, i dont think you would want to take your time with head shots. automatic fire, spraying them with lead would seem like a waste, but if i shot you once in the head, i know you would be dead, just as if i emptied half a clip into your torso from whatever gun i might be wielding.
